Oops yes sorry about that. Does "make" normally find and override config.guess? 
I've never had this problem before. This is the first time I've installed 
Cygwin on a 64 bit windows.

Did you download the most current and replace the config.guess and config.sub 
in the package?  2002 is 11 years plus old; did Windows 7 exist?
