Subject: 7.0 install problems

I downloaded the ISO image of 7.0 yesterday and am now trying to install
it onto my laptop (NEC Versa 6050-MH: P-150 w/32Meg 2 Gig HD) So I put
in the CD and boot it up, it starts fine, brings up the new GUI
installer (_really_ nice looking btw) and I start following the
instructions.
However sometime after the installer begins installing packages, it
crashes. This happens almost every time. What happens is it crashs or
locks up somewhere between the 'begining post install' message and when
it asks for a root password. When I hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 I see a TON of GTK
errors. (assertions failed I believe)
The only time this didn't happen is when I didn't select _any_ packages
to install.
So I have two questions.
1: WHY!? and any idea how to fix this?
2: Is there a way I can skip parts of the install and go right to the
point where it crashed the last time? I tried clicking on the buttons
next to the installer sections but that didn't do anything.
