Hmmm, I agree that this is maybe useful in a non-X-editor (but I've
never used it in Emacs), but I can't imagine a useful application for
that in a web-browser.

Ehm, I do exactly that. Anu I'm sure many others, too. See
http://conkeror.org/ExternalEditing for the detals. Emacsclient is
even the example there.

Sure. Both ways work. I would expect that this also works on Windows,
but I've no idea what other constraints (like a working
conkeror-spawn-helper) are possibly not satisfiable on Windows.
