It is easy to misquote and distort for effect. To say that there are elements in our society who have fought vehemently and to preserve Bowers and related discriminatory policies does not "implicitly characterize members of this list." It was and is a perfectly accurate and reasonable characterization of some of the political forces at work in the society at large. There is a lot of anti-gay prejudice and hysteria out there, and it is impossible to discuss this issue without pointing that out.
And, if Mr. Maltz had read the article carefully, as apparently he did not, he would have seen some sympathy for the critics of the Lawrence reasoning. Asc analysis, his post "fails utterly" to come to grips with any of the points that I made.
