I wanted to advise the list of, and invite its members to attend,  a conference on
Brown v. the Board of Education: 50 Years Later on Friday, October 10, 2003, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Saint Louis University School of Law.

The Richard J. Childress Memorial keynote lecture will be given by William E. Nelson,
the Edward Weinfeld Professor of Law at New York University School of Law.

Jack Greenberg, Professor of Law at Columbia University Law School, will provide luncheon remarks.

 Commentators on Professor Nelson's lecture will be  Robert Cottrol, Harold Paul Green Research Professor of  Law,  George Washington University; Mary Dudziak, Judge Edward J. and Ruey L. Guirado Professor of Law and History, University of Southern California Law School; and  the Honorable Louis H. Pollak, U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

A panel on affirmative action, focusing on the Grutter and Gratz decisions will include Evan Caminker,  Dean Designate and Professor of Law, University of  Michigan Law School;     William LaPiana, Professor of Law, New York Law School; and Joel K. Goldstein, Associate Dean of Faculty and Professor,  Saint Louis University
School of Law.

The final panel will explore the aftermath of Brown in the school systems and other public facilities in the United States. Panelists include Kevin M. Kruse, Assistant Professor of History, Princeton University; Tomiko Brown-Nagin, Assistant Professor of Law and History, Washington University, and Anders Walker, Assistant Professor of Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration, John Jay College.
