yes, I agree business as usual...but certainly some eras are more this way than others, example - the period of time you mention parallels today's in being particularly rife with corporate corruption or uh "facilitating expansion". (although the companies that provided certain basic public services such as train service, water supply - today telephone and wireless etc offer something in return to citizens if held to original agreement)
