The fix by this patch is not tied to ethernet but can be seen there
easily by plugging/unplugging ethernet cable. BTW, this patch does not
fix the crash bug in ethernet plugin.
The other patch I sent, called "service: Check NULL pointer.", fixes the
ethernet plugin crash that could/should fix the bug #23714
