These four patches are what now remains of the 'Code cleanups' patch set.
The new patches 1/4 and 2/4 are essentially the same as 5/8 and 6/8 in
the previous patch set, except for a minor refactoring. The new patch 2/4
now only deals with cleaning up the code, and patch 1/4 contains the
function argument changes.
Patches 3/4 and 4/4 are the same as the previous 8/8 and 7/8, respectively.
