hi Daniel, Vasyl,
now I finally had time to get back to this topic and turns out that indeed,
it was the wpa_supplicant (v2.4) shipped with Ubuntu-17.10 that was the
problem. I compiled my own version from master and that works just fine.
Thanks for the help and suggestions, now I can move on to actually start
using connman for something (and will probably be back with more questions
along the way).
