The Japanese Institute of AnatolianArchaeology expedition is seeking two conservation student interns for thesummer of 2017. Priority will be given to students currently enrolled in aconservation program. Students must be fluent in the English language. In 2009excavation of two new mound sites commenced, Yassıhoyuk and Buklukale, locatedapproximately 20 to 30 km from Kaman in Central Anatolia, in addition toKalehoyuk which has been ongoing since 1986. The primary cultural levels areHittite, Phrygian, and Islamic. Interns have the opportunity to participate inan active conservation program that emphasizes fieldwork, preventive approachesto archaeological conservation, and research. The 6-week internships run betweenthe dates July 31 to September 9 or September 11 to Oct. 21, 2017. The excavation provides a stipend of $ US 40per day, based on a six day workweek. Students participate in theeveryday conservation activities of the field lab. A well-equipped field laband comfortable living facilities compensate the long workday (starting at 5:00am). Students have the opportunity to collaborate with an international team ofarchaeologists, osteoarchaeologists, archaeobotanists, etc. English is theprimary language at the site. Students are requested to cover the cost of theirroom and board (10$ per day, 7 days per week), all transportation costs, visa (varieswith nationality), and residence fee (varies with nationality, between 150 and200$). Interns perform a research projectthat begins prior to arriving at the site. Depending on the project developedbetween the intern and the excavation’s Conservation Director, this first phasemay consist of a literature review. The research provides an opportunity togain familiarity with the site prior to arrival, and contributes in abeneficial way to our conservation program. A field component of the research isdesigned into each project, to be implemented on site. The research results ina formal report submitted to the excavation’s journal, Anatolian Archaeological Studies, published by the JapaneseInstitute of Anatolian Archaeology, to be completed by October 31, 2017.
