NANOTECHNOLOGIES FOR CONSERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE AT PRATT INSTITUTE

Professor Piero Baglioni from the University of Florence will introduce
nano-based protocols for conservation that he and his colleagues developed at
the Center for Colloid and Surface Science (CSGI) in Florence. These systems
include nanostructured dispersions, such as nanoparticles, micellar solutions,
microemulsions, and “responsive” gel formulations.

This hands-on workshop is applicable to conservation of sculpture, paintings,
paper, and wall paintings.

PIERO BAGLIONI received his PhD from the University of Florence in 1977 and is
a Full Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry and CSGI
of the University of Florence. He is the author of over 250 publications in the
field of colloids and interfaces and pioneered the application of soft matter
to the conservation of cultural heritage. He has lectured world wide and he has
produced several innovative methodologies
