IADA International Symposium – Oslo 2017: From Generation to Generation –
Sharing Knowledge, Connecting People

Join us in Oslo (Norway) from 3-5 May 2017 for the next IADA Symposium to
explore how knowledge and experience are shared and transferred from one
generation to another, the importance of preserving and publishing knowledge as
well as understanding and adapting past and current practices in book and paper
conservation.

Programme Highlights
The first day of the conference will bring together conservators from different
backgrounds and countries to explore the way knowledge is transferred nowadays
between generations, by presenting various conservation schools and internships
programmes worldwide in book and paper conservation, with a focus on innovative
education and training models. We will also examine the role played by new
platforms, such as digital meeting points and social media, in sharing
knowledge between conservators, with other heritage professionals or the wider
audience. Academic writing and research in book and paper conservation will
also form part of the discussion.

The second day will turn to more practical conservation issues, reflecting upon
ancient artistic techniques and conservation practices, their perception in
view of modern ethics and the challenges they generate today in terms of
conservation.

A total of 24 lectures and more than a dozen posters will be presented in
English during two full days, while the third day will be devoted to a variety
of tours, visits and workshops in and around Oslo.

Reception
An evening reception organised at the National Library of Norway will give you
the opportunity to meet your conservation colleagues and network with old and
new contacts.

Vendors
Vendors from around the world look forward to showing their latest products.

Language
The language of the conference is English only.
