I am looking for any up to date information people may have about the success, or otherwise, of coatings that have been used as a sealant for ZF-MDF in display cases. I would also be interested in knowing what materials, other than MDF, people have been using for back panels in showcases. Thanks in advance to anyone who would be willing to share this information

Barrier films (commonly used for anoxic or other modified atmosphere packaging) may also be used to provide an impermeable inner lining for most wood-based showcase construction materials. Common trade names are Escal or Marvelseal.

The films may be applied before or after parts are cut, and adhered by heating the film with an ordinary household iron set to low heat. (Applying before cutting the MDF can be neater and easier to handle.) They provide an effective barrier to moisture and gases emanating from, or passing through the boards. (MDF is quite porous, and will readily pass moisture and gasses.)

They can be covered in cloth where visible.
