Messors offers for the upcoming summer the Fresco & Canvas Conservation and Restoration workshop in Puglia, Italy <http://messors.com/art-restoration-and-conservation/> - June 13-28, 2017. The workshop includes the practices of conservation and restoration of fresco, canvas, and statuary (wood, papier-mache, etc.). The session will begin with an introduction, practical hands-on experience, excursions, and lectures. After introductions which are common to all areas, participants may choose a specific area of focus. There are no prerequisites required to participate in this workshop. The frescoes that will be worked on and studied are part of the rupestral settlements (underground habitations) located in the Alta Murgia area. Statues and canvases are provided by local churches and private collections. The session provides a practical focus, allowing students ample opportunity for participation in restoration technique and creation ex-novo. By learning and actively working, participants also contribute to the conservation of the rich art and historical heritage of the region. The workshop is complimented by seminars in Art History, Geomorphological Studies, Iconography, Physics and Chemistry applied to art conservation. The course includes: visit Sassi of Matera (Unesco World Heritage site), the Rupestral Churches Park, visit Pompeii archeological site, museums and historical district of Naples, art exhibitions, excursions to archaeological sites of the region.
