*Artist Interview Workshop*
*Voices in Contemporary Art (VoCA)*

VoCA’s Artist Interview Workshops aim to educate conservators, curators,
archivists, and their colleagues on the methods and skills required to
conduct successful artist interviews and gather knowledge essential to art
preservation. This year, we will offer one workshop for arts professionals
at *the Rebuild Foundation, located at **6760 S. Stony Island Ave.** in
Chicago, IL on June 8-9, 2017.*

The application for this program is now available online at
 http://www.voca.network/artist-interview-workshop-application/
<http://www.voca.network/artist-interview-workshop-application/>. The
deadline to apply is* Monday, March 6, 2017*.

Over the past five years, VoCA's Artist Interview Workshops have offered a
collaborative environment for anyone presenting, producing, or interpreting
contemporary art to reflect upon interview methods and sharpen the skills
that can lead to more successful and engaged conversations with artists. In
addition to exploring how the planned uses for interviews shape the
dynamics of the exchange, the 2017 workshop at the Rebuild Foundation in
Chicago will give special attention to interviews in social practice,
community-based, and politically engaged art. This two-day workshop will be
led by *Jill Sterrett*, Director of Collections at SFMOMA and VoCA Board
President, and *Richard Cándida Smith*, Professor of History at UC
Berkeley, whose respective experiences in museum-based interview programs
and oral history produce a rigorous, instructive, and interactive agenda.

These Workshops have been made possible by the continued support of the
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, whose generosity has enabled us to offer this
program tuition free. However, please be aware that participants are
responsible for their own cost of travel, some meals, and hotel
accommodations. Also, each workshop is limited to 25 participants, so we
recommend that you do not wait to apply. Successful applicants will be
notified by Monday, March 20, 2017.
