Dear ConsDistList I am currently undertaking a MA in Conservation from Durham University and I am currently on placement at the Royal Armouries Leeds. One of my projects is a survey of current preventative light measures in one of the museum galleries (Oriental Gallery). The Oriental gallery contains the most light sensitive objects, arms and armour containing, textiles, wood, leather, and Japanese lacquer.
In order to help gauge how effective the Oriental Gallery is at light prevention and to identify areas that it could improve in, I am hoping the ConsDistList will help me to collect information and data from a number of institutions. This is in order to gain an insight in current methods and attitudes toward light control and preventing damage.
