The Leather Conservation Centre (LCC) was established in 1978 and is an internationally renowned organisation offering a comprehensive service in the conservation and care of objects (including books and other archival materials) of historic, cultural and artistic importance made wholly or partly of leather or its related materials. http://www.leatherconservation.org The LCC is seeking a senior conservator preferably with experience in the conservation of leather and related materials including associated materials such as metals and textiles. Working to agreed estimates on a range of objects you will liaise with and manage relationships with existing private and institutional clients and bring in new clients. The successful candidate will operate effectively in a time of change whilst the LCC moves to new premises and will develop and move towards assuming full responsibility from the present Head of Conservation. The conservator will work with the Head of Conservation and Trustees to develop a business plan, learn how to manage staff and contractors and to administer and run the LCC. You need to have either a degree in conservation or equivalent knowledge and skills sets, and practical hands-on experience in conservation of leather and related materials. Broad knowledge of available conservation treatments together with a good understanding of preventive conservation issues is essential. Some management experience and knowledge of client based working would be an advantage.
