Dear all, I am a Masters student at the University of Lincoln. I am writing my dissertation about red lead oxidation. The aims of my research are to find out what environmental factors influence the growth of this type of oxidation layer and to find out how and why this patina layer occurs. I would like to collect as many samples as possible from different locations, then I would like to carry out XRF testing in order to find out the composition of the lead, and SEM and XRD testing to see the composition of the patina layer. On top of these test I would like to collect environmental data.
I am writing to this platform because I would like to ask for help in collecting samples. Are you aware of this reddish, brownish even purple looking patina on any outdoor lead artefacts, stained glass windows or lead roofs? I would be really grateful if you could provide me some samples that I can carry out test on.
