-Doug Douglas Nishimura Image Permanence Institute Rochester Institute of Technology ----------------------------------- For the past three years, ten graduate students in the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation have helped to recover a collection of severely damaged photographs during a 2.5-week intensive course in photograph conservation led by Debra Hess Norris, Chair and Professor of Photograph Conservation in the Department of Art Conservation. We have preserved images damaged by fire and floods and a large collection of historically important 19th-century album pages exhibiting significant dirt and fragility. We would like to consider another project for January 2018. We can accommodate up to 200 images. Our focus is on surface cleaning and stabilization (such as minor tear mending, flattening, crease reduction, etc.). Ideally, we would like a variety of photographic processes as this will provide the best educational experience for our fellows. We will cover all costs including supplies, rehousing materials, and labor. The collection will be examined and treated at Winterthur. We are especially willing to help stabilize a collection in an underserved museum or archive where surface cleaning and basic care are required but the materials must be treated at Winterthur given our class schedule. Please contact Debra Hess Norris at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> if you know of a collection in need or a recovery effort where we can be helpful.
