Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art - TEI of Athens Date: 13-23

Description The program profile is broken down into educational components
which consist of seven modules, hands-on teaching and other relevant
learning activities. This ten-day program will provide a general overview of
the various types of disasters and the history of the field of disaster risk
management planning for cultural heritage. In addition, it will address the
value of disaster planning and highlight national and international (U.S.A.)
training programs and activities that help staff in cultural institutions to
tackle common threats to collections. Furthermore, it will present
information on identifying and assessing risks faced by an institution as
well as the four district phases of a disaster plan (Preparation -
Prevention - Response - Salvage/Stabilization). The participants will have a
hands-on opportunity to learn and practice emergency salvage and packing
techniques for collections damaged by a disaster (flood, fire, earthquake,
biological infestation). Finally, the course will place emphasis on how to
ensure health and human safety in an emergency.

Target audience This program is intended for staff charged with collections
care, including conservators, librarians, archivists, curators, collections
managers, and stewards of historic house museums.

Instruction It will be implementing by permanent academic faculty members
from the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art - TEI of
Athens, Research Collaborators as well as Disaster Management Specialists in
the U.S. - members of The American Institute for Conservation (AIC).

Program Duration 10 days /40 Hours of instruction

Class Timings Classes will be held in the mornings (9.00am to 12.00pm) or
afternoons/evenings (4.00pm to 8.00/9.00pm). 

Working Languages English and Greek

Cost The seminar fee is 200 Euros and covers registration for all seven
program modules (total of 40 hours), lecture notes, material for the
training activities, course certificate and refreshments. 

Admission Requirements All holders of a Higher Education degree in a related
field fulfill the admission requirement for attending the program. In
addition, applicants must have very good knowledge of the English language,
certified by formal qualifications, advanced computer skills and the ability
to use the internet. Maximum Number of participants: 30. The selected
participants will be announced August 5, 2017.

Certificates - ECTS credits Lifelong Learning Certificates are granted when
the program has been successfully completed and the certification criteria
and procedures have been met. The Lifelong Learning Institute - TEI of
Athens implements the learner-centered European Credit Transfer and
Accumulation System (ECTS) to this program. 30 ECTS credits are allocated to
the program.
