Hi All, We recently installed an exhibition at our new historic home in Milton, Mass, and have placed data loggers in the exhibition rooms. We have been using the T&D RTR-574 loggers with RH/T and UV/I sensors. The exhibit consists of sealed cases with various pieces of jewelry from the collection, many of which display mixed media pieces (bone, ivory, or hair jewelry alongside silver pieces). We installed bags of 50% RH conditioned silica gel in these cases, as well as activated charcoal to prevent corrosion of silver pieces. However, we've consistently been getting readings around 35% RH within the cases, while the ambient RH in the galleries is closer to 55-60%. I originally thought the gel may have been improperly conditioned, but I tested some of the remaining silica gel back in the lab (ambient RH approximately 40%) and it has successfully maintained an RH of 50% over the past several weeks. Has anyone else encountered this problem or could offer any advice on the subject?
Thanks in advance for your help!
