What level of conservation treatment is ethically justifiable when the 
materials pertain to the relics of a Saint (Catholic). There are Codes from 
Canon Law from the Vatican to guide what permissions should be obtained but 
nothing specifically about the repair or 'restoration itself". What have 
conservators done when faced with degrading wood from coffins, textiles from 
clothing (second class relics). Does introducing foreign substances affect the 
authenticity or sacredness of the material?
