This post offers an opportunity to join the team at a busy county archives and local studies service to assist with projects large and small which contribute to the delivery of 'Shared Heritage' our 10 year strategy. Working alongside HALS' Conservator, your main focus will be practical preservation and conservation work, including the preparation of conservation assessments, on material owned by external customers. There may also be opportunities for working on material held by HALS funded by grants and bequests. There may also be scope for assisting with the provision of conservation services, preparation of materials for digitisation or exhibition, and learning activities. There may also be a need for some practical cover for other conservation duties from time to time. This role is offered as a variable hours contract for work when funding is available. Hours will be variable by agreement during HALS opening hours, plus Mondays and Friday afternoons. Other evening and weekend times may be possible for learning and outreach activities. You will have a recognised qualification in paper conservation and an excellent knowledge of the appropriate conservation methods, preservation and collections care for a wide range of physical media. An effective communicator, with good ICT skills, methodical and accurate, you will be able to prioritise your workload to meet deadlines and agreed targets, including in the preparation of conservation assessments for customers. In return we can offer the chance to develop your skills working with a range of materials from medieval deeds to modern books, whilst working for an organisation that values its employees and invests in training, and a Career Development Scheme. This role would suit someone who can be flexible in the hours they offer and is looking to balance with other work commitments when work is available.
