About Collections
The Collections Business Unit sits within the Performing Arts pillar and is 
responsible for creating and delivering performing arts exhibitions, 
facilitating public access to the Collections onsite and online and developing 
and caring for the Australian Performing Arts Collection and Art Collection. 
The Unit is comprised of four interrelated teams working across leadership and 
advocacy, public engagement, content and collection development and collection 
care. 

The Role
As the inaugural Object Conservator, you will be responsible for performing and 
documenting remedial and preventive conservation work on a wide variety of 2D 
and 3D objects including outdoor sculpture and items made of various materials.
Conservation work will include documentation, treatment and preventive 
conservation, participation in multi-disciplinary teams and the implementation 
of new or improved conservation techniques to prepare objects for storage, 
access and display.

To be successful in this role you will require:
•       Tertiary qualification in materials conservation for cultural heritage 
collections, with a post graduate qualification in objects and/or textile 
conservation
•       Demonstrated experience in the remedial conservation of objects made 
from a wide variety of materials within heritage collections including 
performing large scale assessments and complex treatments
•       Demonstrated experience of working in a conservation role, responsible 
for the ongoing preventive conservation programs and projects focused on 
integrated pest management, improved storage and environments for collections
•       Comprehensive experience in project management and a proven ability to 
successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
•       Demonstrated expertise related to the management of loans and 
exhibition production
•       Expertise in conducting high level research related to remedial and 
preservative conservation, including environment and condition surveys, risk 
assessment and materials analysis
•       Demonstrated knowledge of collection emergency planning principles and 
practices and experience of involvement with collection emergency events
•       High degree of experience and competency in the use of collection 
management documentation systems eg. Axiell, Emu, MV Wise, photography and 
digital imaging
•       Specialist knowledge of national and international preservation, 
conservation and museological frameworks, principles, ethics, related to 
multi-disciplinary heritage collections including compliance for OH&S policies 
and experience in the development of relevant processes and procedures
•       Highly developed verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills 
and ability to influence and negotiate with key stakeholders on complex 
projects.
