Job description: Are you enthusiastic, competent and graduate-calibre in conservation? We are offering TWO 9-month internships to work with our conservation team, to gain excellent experience in the conservation of medical objects made from a wide variety of materials, and ranging in date from antiquity to present day. The internships will be based at Blythe House in Kensington Olympia and at the Science Museum in South Kensington depending on project activity. These are unique opportunities to work on objects destined for our new Medicine galleries, the most ambitious element of the Science Museum's Masterplan. Opening in 2019, we are creating a suite of five new Medicine Galleries which will showcase our world class Medicine collection in a new location at the heart of the Museum. You will have a recognised conservation qualification, or comparable experience in conservation. The internship will provide an excellent experience in interventive conservation of historical objects and help to develop practical knowledge and understanding of preventive conservation. You will need to be aware of hazard management procedures associated with historical objects and have a good knowledge of Health and Safety, including safe use of chemicals for lab safety and collections management. The Science Museum Group (SMG) comprises the Science Museum in London, the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, the National Railway Museum in York and Shildon and the Science and Media Museum in Bradford. Together they share a unifying mission to engage people in a dialogue about the past, present and future of human ingenuity in the fields of science, technology, medicine, transport and media. Interviews are expected to be held on the 2nd and 3rd November.
