Housekeeping and Dust Day One-day fee: GBP 139
To dust or not to dust? Seeking a sustainable approach to collections care This one-day workshop explores the effects of dust on historic collections and libraries which are open and/or closed to visitors. Participants will learn about the sources and distribution of dust particles, methods of monitoring deposition rates, the causes of cementation, and how people’s perceptions of dustiness influence resources for housekeeping. There will be opportunities to examine dust samples using simple instruments to identify particles and assess coverage. We will explore how rates of dust deposition inform housekeeping routines, and influence the management of historic collections and libraries for public benefit. Course Tutor: Helen Lloyd is both Manager of the National Specialists (Collections) at the National Trust and Preventive Conservation Adviser - Housekeeping.
