Bodleian Libraries are seeking to appoint a Part-time Preventive Conservation
Technician to join the Conservation and Collection Care team in the Weston
Library. Conservation and Collection Care works to preserve, stabilise and
improve access to the Bodleian Libraries' collections through preventive
programmes, interventive treatments, research, and by supporting an ongoing
exhibitions programme.

As a Preventive Conservation Technician, you will carry out a range of
collection care activities, work to coordinate essential equipment maintenance,
and troubleshoot the environmental monitoring system. You will support the work
of the preventive team and the wider library, as agreed with the Preventive
Conservator. Based at the Weston Library you will benefit from all we have to
offer in-house as well as joining the wider conservation and museums community
in Oxford.

You will need a recognised professional qualification in conservation with an
emphasis on preventive issues, and/or a good knowledge of collections care and
preventive conservation activities in a library or similar context, and a sound
understanding of the preservation of library objects. You will also have
experience of using monitoring equipment and software, preferably Synergy. Good
interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and
professionally are essential.

This is a fixed-term maternity cover post for up to 1 year, working part-time
for 21.9 hours per week (0.6 FTE), across 3 days (preferably Mondays, Tuesdays
and Fridays, but there is some flexibility).

This role involves some lifting and carrying of moderate weights, working in
cold and sub-zero temperatures for short periods of time, and occasionally
working with mould and dust.

Please discuss secondments with your line manager in the first instance, as you
must have their agreement that you can be released for a secondment before you
submit an application.

Owing to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to
undertake a Disclosure Scotland check as well as a financial background check.
The possession of a criminal record or poor financial background will not
necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are
judged individually according to the nature of the role and information
provided.

You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of
your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the
essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description,
and explain how you meet each one. CV’s alone will not be considered.

Only applications received online before 12.00 midday on Monday 11 December
2017 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 19
December 2017.
