Conservator (Paper)
The successful candidate would be based at Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC), 
where it is the main repository of the national collection under the 
custodianship of the National Heritage Board (NHB), Singapore. The conservator 
would be expected to contribute to the smooth operation and delivery of 
exhibitions, projects and events of museums and institutions under NHB, 
including National Gallery Singapore under the Visual Arts Cluster (VAC) of the 
Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) by assisting in conservation 
related tasks and activities (operational and administrative) in accordance 
with institutional procedures and project timelines.
The main work location would be at HCC, a purpose-built facility that houses 
the National Collection and fully fledged conservation and conservation science 
laboratories. HCC carries out collections management function and conservation 
services. He or she would be required to work on-site at the museums and 
Gallery when the need arises.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  *   Carries out conservation assessments, documentation and treatments on 
artworks and artefacts according to HCC procedures, instructions and guidelines 
for exhibits, loans and events for museums and institutions under NHB, such as 
the National Museum of Singapore, Asian Civilisations Museum, The Peranakan 
Museum, Heritage Institutions and for the National Gallery, under the VAC.
  *   Involves in preventive work such as mounting and framing, recommending 
environmental settings for short or long term display of artefacts/artworks.
  *   Provides advice on transport, handling and display requirements whenever 
necessary.
  *   Performs and assists in exhibition related tasks such as 
packing/unpacking for installation/de-installation.
  *   Participates and performs administrative duties in the paper section, 
ranging from coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, minutes of meetings, 
report writing, operational procedures and any procurement as assigned by the 
head of paper section.
  *   Any other ah-hoc duties and projects assigned.
  *   May be involved in conservation study or research projects.

Requirements:

  *   Possesses a recognized degree (bachelor's or honours) or a Master's 
degree in Conservation, with a minimum of 6 to 8 years of relevant work 
experience in as a full time staff either on a permanent or contract basis.
  *   Possesses the ability to carry out comprehensive treatments with a high 
degree of manual dexterity and aesthetic sensitivity.
  *   Familiarity and experience with cultural materials in South East Asia 
and/or Chinese paintings, as well as modern and contemporary artworks will be 
advantageous.
  *   Possesses initiative with ability to multi-task, organise and prioritise 
work in given timeline.
  *   Possesses a wide exposure in handling multi-cultural materials with 
sensitivity and demonstrate relevance in making sound contextual judgements in 
applying conservation principles and practices.
  *   Possesses the ability to work unsupervised as well as being a cooperative 
member of staff.
  *   Possesses the ability to adapt in a multi-lingual and multi-racial 
environment.
  *   Keeps updated with current conservation development through self-directed 
learning and training. Evidence of continual professional development is 
strongly desirable.
