A one day workshop held in London’s Natural History Museum tackling the
problem of pyrite oxidation (or decay, or disease) within geological
collections. The day is aimed at all conservators, curators and collection
managers who work with geological collections, but equally there may be
interest from other museum professionals, students and volunteers.

The morning session will consist of presentations focusing on current
research, recent projects and re-storage techniques. Workshops will be held
in the afternoon. Workshop participants will learn how to identify pyrite
oxidation, how to undertake dry cleaning techniques, how to create anoxic
microenvironments and how to use humidity-controlled environments to slow
oxidation rates. The morning session is unlimited but the afternoon session
is limited to 20 people.

If you care for a geological collection of almost any size then it is
likely that you have pyritised specimens which may need special attention
devoted to their storage and care.
