Microclimate enclosures for 2 to 12 sq/ft paintings in historic frames take me about 10 to 18 hours to complete, whether using a re-sealable method of an aluminum angle sided box with Dibond back, or Marvelseal with hot melt adhesive, that is difficult to reseal once opened.
After labor, the cost of glazing adds up, while costs of aluminum angle and tape, microchamber board, spacers, poplar wood, etc. are small. Optium Museum acrylic is usually used here, and laminated glass was more used. Usually a poplar buildup is fitted to the frame back, to house the package back and support the added weight. Each enclosure is a custom fit, and sometimes the design can be too. -- Hugh Glover http://www.williamstownart.org/ ****** Unsubscribe by sending a message to [email protected] Searchable archives: http://cool.conservation-us.org/byform/mailing-lists/cdl/
