Greetings All.

I have an assemblage in my studio that requires the reattachment of found glass
shards to a painted wooden substrate. They were originally attached by the
artist with what appears to be Duco Cement, which has lead to a number of
problems, including failure of adhesion to the some of the glass surfaces.

Is there an accepted best conservation adhesive for this sort of application at
this point in time? I am currently carrying out tests with isinglass, Aquazol
200, Lascaux PVA (solution in ethanol), BEVA D8 and BEVA 371. Clearly I am
coming at this from the perspective of a painting conservator. So I am
reaching out to the larger community to find out if there is an established
best practice amongst object conservators who do this kind of thing more/less
routinely. Any recommendations regarding materials and methods would be
greatly appreciated. Because of the painted surface reversibility in
relatively mild solvents is highly desirable.

Thanks in advance.

With warmest regards from sunny New Mexico,
