Call for Papers
Western Association for Art Conservation Annual Meeting
Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu
New Mexico
September 27-29, 2018
The Western Association for Art Conservation (WAAC) is accepting proposals for
talks to be presented at the 44th Annual Meeting. (Registration coming soon.)
We are seeking exciting and thought provoking papers in all areas of
conservation and related fields. In the best WAAC tradition, a wide range of
presentations are eligible for consideration. We are particularly interested in
papers that push the boundaries and challenge the profession to re/consider
roles, responsibilities, techniques, and ideas. Since the meeting will take
place in New Mexico, papers that highlight the art and history of the region
are particularly welcome. Please keep in mind that individual presentations
will be 25 minutes in length. However, suggestions for multi-session panels,
incorporating multiple speakers, will also be welcomed.
WAAC is excited that this is the first annual meeting to be hosted by Ghost
Ranch, a 21,000-acre retreat and education center located about an hour and a
half outside of Santa Fe. You may not be familiar with Ghost Ranch, but you
have most likely seen it depicted in numerous paintings by Georgia O’Keeffe who
lived and worked there for over four decades. The ranch is also home to one of
the most important dinosaur quarries in the Northern Hemisphere. As a
pre-conference event, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the
Angel’s project led by colleagues from the Mesalands Dinosaur Museum in
Tucumcari. While helping to improve the storage conditions of finds housed in
the onsite paleontology and anthropology museums, we will also learn about
dinosaurs.
