Senior Conservator of Textiles
VPS 5.1: AU$93,867 gross per annum + 9.5% superannuation
Full Time, Fixed Term for 3 years

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking a Senior Conservator of 
Textiles to manage the Textiles Conservation section and provide high level 
preventive and remedial treatment for textiles in the NGV collection.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
You will manage the Textiles conservation section by aligning the team with the 
organisational values and goals through effective people management and 
modelling.  This includes clearly defining role expectations, monitoring 
performance, providing timely and constructive feedback and facilitating 
employee development. Other key responsibilities include:
* Contributing to the planning of NGV Conservation programs within the 
framework of organisational objectives and the strategic plan through 
participation in a range of project and planning meetings
* Responsibly managing a range of textile conservation projects.  Advising on, 
and planning for future programs and proposals in an evolving multi venue art 
museum environment, ensuring all work performed is completed in a timely manner.
* Providing authoritative advice on the conservation of textiles, developing 
and managing a preventive conservation program.  Developing guidelines and 
techniques for treating, handling, displaying and transiting textiles in the 
NGV Collection.
* Initiating and overseeing research programs and treatment proposals for 
textiles in the NGV Collection. Undertaking and supervising conservation 
examinations and treatments of high complexity and importance.

To be successful you will have a tertiary qualification in conservation of 
cultural materials, specialising in the conservation of textiles, coupled with 
extensive practical experience within a major art museum of international 
standing.
You can consult, liaise with and influence key stakeholders, produce detailed 
project plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for 
achieving them are clearly specified, monitoring performance against objectives 
and managing project risks and issues ensuring project objectives are met.  You 
confidently convey ideas and information in a clear and interesting way, 
clearly understanding the target audience and the objectives of the 
communication. You can prepare complex briefs, letters, emails and reports 
using clear concise and grammatically correct language and edit written 
communications to ensure they contain the information necessary to achieve 
their purpose.
