13:30-14:00 Shirley Jones - Keeping Calm in Conservation
When is Calm a useful tool for Conservation
documentation, and when are other formats such as spread sheets more
appropriate? This talk will consider the use of Calm in day-to-day practice in
Conservation.
14:00-14:30 Richard Nichols - Who pays the money calls the tune?
It doesn't have to be the case that your grant giving charity will tell you
what to do and how to do it; it comes down to how well you write up your
proposal and how realistic the targets and techniques you propose. In my
experience the more collaboration you have from colleagues and the more open
your discussion with the charity the better the outcome will be. In this
session I will explore the three grant funded projects we have had at
Staffordshire Archive and Heritage Service. We will look at how we chose
collections to be the subject of a bid, how we presented the project to the
funding body, how we arrived at the budget and what that meant for our
staffing, treatment and materials choices, also what were our obligations
regarding reporting back to the grant giving body.
14:30-15:30 Questions and group discussion
15:30-16:00 (Optional) Tour of Conservation Studio and
boxmaking machine demonstration
16:00 CLOSE OF DAY
