The University of Malta, Department of Conservation and Built
Heritage, is offering
a full time Masters Course in Conservation of Decorative Architectural Surfaces
(wall paintings and stone), starting in October 2018.

The course will be of relevance to graduates in archaeology, history of art,
chemistry, biology, physics, architecture or engineering, or other related
fields, wishing to specialise in conservation and to make it their career.

Structure of the programme:

A one-year Preparatory Programme, starting in October 2018, is
designed specifically
to prepare students to commence the MSc in Conservation of
Decorative Architectural Surfaces opening the following year (October 2019).
It will give students coming from a humanities background the opportunity
to familiarise themselves with science-based topics, and conversely,
students from a science background the opportunity to familiarise
themselves with arts-based subjects.

The Preparatory Year is followed by the two-year multidisciplinary MSc course,
which focuses on the conservation of decorative architectural surfaces
(including wall paintings and stone). The programme contains an equal
balance of theoretical and practical subjects, carried out throughout the
academic years and during summer placements. Practial training is mainly
provided through student fieldwork projects which the Department conducts
at heritage sites in Malta. A dissertation is undertaken in the final year
of the course.
