22 October -2 November 2018 | The Palace Museum, Beijing
In order for professionals to gain a deeper insight into paper conservation science, the 4th IIC-ITCC programme co-organised by IIC and the Palace Museum will offer an intensive, ten-day theory and practical workshop for 24 mid-career conservation practitioners from all over the world. Instructed by international specialists from leading institutions in the field, the workshop will begin with an overview of the current approaches to preventive conservation and non-destructive analysis of paper / photographic artefacts, followed by thematic sessions consisting of lectures, case studies and hands-on sessions in the 'Hospital for Conservation' at the Palace Museum to examine the structures and techniques that make up different types of paper-based materials and their associated conservation problems. Immediately following the workshop, the Palace Museum will host a complementary two-day symposium on the same topic on 1-2 November 2018, bringing together speakers worldwide with different expertise in the study of paper conservation. Participants are encouraged to attend the symposium, which will enable them to develop a valuable professional network in the field for advice and resource, aside the benefits of fruitful exchange of experience and culture.
