POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Head of Preservation and Digitization, develops, 
manages, and coordinates temporary and semi-permanent exhibitions across the 
Washington University Libraries. The Exhibitions Manager serves as the central 
point of contact for all Libraries exhibitions, and works closely with 
curators, subject specialists, preservation and digitization staff, operational 
planning and assessment staff, communications and events staff, vendors, and a 
variety of other stakeholders from across the institution to ensure exhibitions 
are accessible, diverse, engaging, and fulfill the organizational mission.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-        Under the direction of the Head of Preservation and Digitization, 
develops, manages, and coordinates temporary and semi-permanent exhibitions 
across the Washington University Libraries. The Exhibitions Manager serves as 
the central point of contact for all Libraries exhibitions, and works closely 
with curators, subject specialists, preservation and digitization staff, 
operational planning and assessment staff, communications and events staff, 
vendors, and a variety of other stakeholders from across the institution to 
ensure exhibitions are accessible, diverse, engaging, and fulfill the 
organizational mission.

-        Supervise the Exhibitions Preparator and oversee the design, 
preparation, coordination of vendors and contractors, and 
installation/deinstallation of physical exhibitions with consideration to 
conservation needs and WU style and branding. Develop and maintain necessary 
documentation.

-        Collaborate with appropriate staff to promote and provide outreach for 
the exhibitions program. Provide instruction and training for 
exhibition-related education and interpretation. Coordinate the design and 
creation of associated digital exhibitions and, in conjunction with 
communications and events staff, aide in the creation of associated promotional 
materials, such as brochures, catalogs, etc.

-        Serve as point person for maintenance, environmental control, 
security, and other issues related to all exhibitions spaces, cases, and patron 
interactions. Coordinate, as appropriate, with designated preservation, 
facilities, and security staff and vendors.

-        Oversee ongoing assessment of exhibition program and user experience 
to ensure organizational goals are met. Work with designated staff to ensure 
ADA compliance is satisfied. Gather statistics and provide necessary data and 
reports.

-        Participates in library-wide and university-wide activities, 
committees, special projects and programs, as assigned. Perform other duties as 
assigned.

-        Evening and weekend shifts required

-        Occasional travel required

Required Qualifications

-        Bachelor's Degree in Design, History, American Culture, or related 
field, 3-5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and 
relevant experience

-        3-5 years of supervisory experience

-        Experience handling special collections

-        Capable of multi-tasking, prioritizing & working in fast paced 
environment with tight deadlines. Proven professional leadership to engage 
library staff, administrators, donors and other constituencies

-        Knowledge of constructing display pieces, matting, framing, and 
handling fragile artifacts and works of art

-        Knowledge of digital imaging and graphic design

-        Proven ability to communicate creative concepts and interact with an 
academic community and the general public

-        Working knowledge of relevant software applications such as MS Office 
suite, Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and open source platforms 
such as Omeka, CollectionSpace

-        Strong graphic art and computer skills

-        Experience working with websites, blogs, and social media

-        Evidence of excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication 
skills

-        Excellent organization and analytic skills, with strong attention to 
detail

-        Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

-        Must be able to lift 40+ pounds

-        Ability to be standing for hours at a time

-        Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to materials 
containing possible dust and mold

-        Ability to work evening and weekend shifts

-        Ability to available for occasional travel

Preferred Qualifications

-        Master's degree preferred

-        Prior experience working in an academic archives or special 
collections library

-        Subject knowledge in one or more of the Special Collections Library's 
primary collecting areas, such as modern American literature and history, rare 
books, civil rights history, local history, film & media, modern graphic 
history, or university history

Salary Range
The hiring range for this position is $51,909 - $67,470 annually.
