Laser Cleaning Workshop
Wednesday, November 7, 2018
The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, MD

The Department of Conservation and Technical Research at the Walters Art Museum
will be hosting a one day workshop on laser cleaning presented by Dr. Martin
Cooper of Lynton Lasers Ltd. The workshop will include basic theory of laser
cleaning, laser safety, and a practical session where participants will have a
chance to use Lynton Lasers' Compact Phoenix system, a small portable laser
cleaning system ideal for workshop or small-scale site work. The workshop will
concentrate on the use of the Nd:YAG laser for cleaning sculpture and objects,
and is aimed at conservators with little or no previous experience of laser
cleaning who are keen to learn about applying this technology to the
conservation of art.

Lynton Lasers is a UK-based company which has been working closely with
conservators around the world for over twenty years. Dr. Martin Cooper started
working with laser cleaning systems in conservation in the early 1990s. He
spent 20 years working as a conservation scientist at National Museums
Liverpool before moving to Lynton in 2013 to head up its conservation division.

The workshop is free of charge but space is limited. Contact Madison Whitesell
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>), Conservation
Technician at The Walters Art Museum, by September 28 to reserve a place. For
