Dear Lars

When I worked in an historic house, there was an event held by a perfumer.
Scents were diffused in several rooms. To lessen the risk of residues and
spillage, the scent generator had silica gel soaked in perfume in it and a fan
blew air over the silica gel (if I remember correctly). The whole device was
encased and may have been custom-made by the perfumer.

Kind regards

Our exhibition planners want to use artificial scents in our exhibitions and we
are concerned that the compounds in the aerosols may harm the objects. Further,
some people are sensitive to scents and may develop allergic reactions.

Please share your thoughts regarding scent in museum exhibitions.
