Job Posting - Assistant Conservator - Part Time

Ubbink Book and Paper Conservation is seeking a recent graduate or current
student to prepare condition reports, document treatments, and assist with
treatments focused on the conservation of paper based materials. This is an
excellent opportunity to gain experience, develop skills, and acquire
knowledge. 

 

Description- The main duties of the Assistant Conservator includes preparing
artifact condition reports and transcribing treatment proposals,
photographing artifacts prior to and post treatment, assisting with
conservation treatments and carrying out basic treatments as directed.
Duties will also include responding to telephone inquiries, customer
service, maintaining/adding materials to Facebook page and Website, packing
artifacts for transportation, and carrying out tests on artifacts. 

 

Requirements- Qualified applicants will be either a graduate of, or
currently attending, Post-Secondary education in Museum Studies and/or
Cultural Conservation. They will have excellent technical and hands-on
skills, as well as, oral and written communication skills. Being client and
service orientated, having experience and knowledge of handling and
examining artifacts, writing condition reports, using published and internet
resources for research, and photographing artifacts is required.  A
knowledge of paper manufacturing, printing techniques, media, and book
binding techniques is preferred. They are expected to be aware of, and
adhere to, the CAC/ACCR code of ethics. Basic office skills, including an
ability to use MS Office programs, social media and digital image editing
programs will be required.

 

Salary - $15.00/hour; possibility for increased hours, increased
conservation treatment duties, and raises as earned and warranted. 

This position is on a contractual basis, with the potential for future
permanent employment.
