The University of Malta is inviting applications for full-time Research
Support Officers at level from II in the Department of Conservation and
Built Heritage.
Applicants must be graduates holding a Master’s degree (at least Upper
Second Class classification) in any one of the following, or a combination
thereof, depending on the post applied for: Chemistry, Chemical
Engineering, Physics, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering,
Environmental Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science. A
demonstrable knowledge of modelling and modelling software will be
considered an asset.
The areas of research for each post will be the following:
i. Study of the effects of salt weathering on stone, and its modelling, to
define precisely how the salts present within the Globigerina Limestone
megaliths at the Prehistoric Temples of Malta are bringing about their
deterioration. This will be based on a large number of existing studies on
Globigerina Limestone and its deterioration and environmental and related
data collected over the years at the sites. Studies on the rates of stone
deterioration will be also targeted.
ii. Environmental monitoring and the modelling of such data (past and
present) to understand how the climate has changed in the Temple sites
since the erection of the shelters. This will be based on a vast array of
data collected at the sites over the years, which monitoring is still
continuing. New data may need to be collected in direct relation to this
research.
All requirements need to be in place at the time of appointment for each of
posts on offer.
These posts are for a fixed term contract of three years, starting January
2019.
