The Great Basin Institute seeks to hire a Museum Technician to work cooperatively with Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE) and Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument (PARA) staff to support the Parks’ cultural resources program. Specific duties associated with museum, lab analysis, and data processing, include but are not limited to: • Museum collections and archives work including cataloging of backlog archives, scanning documents and historic photos, maintaining museum records, and other miscellaneous tasks associated with the museum collections; • Lab analysis and data processing duties include analysis and cataloging of artifacts, updating of databases, and report preparation; and • Performs museum housekeeping tasks including Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required, and lifting and moving of heavy items weighing 50 pounds or more.
*Compensation*: o Rate of pay: $16/hour o Health Insurance *Timeline: * o Six month appointment beginning October/November 2018, or upon completion of a Department of Interior background investigation; o Potential for an extension up to one year, pending available funding and positive performance review; o 40 hours per week; some overtime and weekend work may occasionally be required. *Location:* Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE) Headquarters is in Boulder City, Nevada, a 30 minute drive from Las Vegas. LAKE encompasses nearly 1.5 million acres in southeastern Nevada and northwestern Arizona, including mountains, canyons, valleys, and two vast lakes. From the mouth of the Grand Canyon, the park follows the Arizona-Nevada border along what was formerly 140 miles of the Colorado River.
