*Archaeological/Historic Objects Conservator * *18 month post based in Edinburgh*
*Salary £21,700-28,000 depending on experience* AOC Archaeology is one of the leading heritage companies in the UK. We have one of Britain’s largest and most experienced team of in house artefact, ecofact and conservation specialists and we are currently recruiting for an archaeological conservator to assist with delivery of our conservation and post excavation programmes. The conservator will be based in our Edinburgh Office where our conservation laboratory is located and will work with the AOC Conservation and Post excavation teams and the archaeological Project Managers on projects from across our network of UK Offices. The post will also involve working on location across the UK as required, usually in Scotland. This post is for 18 months initially with a possibility for extension. Are you an experienced conservator? Can you work to tight deadlines and manage budgets? Do you have a specialist area of conservation expertise? Are you willing to learn new skills? Are you methodical and well organised? Are you energetic and willing to travel? Do you have a positive and enthusiastic approach and enjoy being an active team member? The successful candidate will have a willingness to take on varied duties in line with our conservation and post excavation programmes. Duties will include in-house and on-site conservation assessment, liaison with in-house and external conservators and artefact specialists, bench and on-site conservation, condition surveys and collection care. You will be based in Edinburgh but you will be required to travel to locations across Scotland and to our other UK offices, and to stay away overnight in line with project demands. Applicants should have a degree in artefact conservation and experience of conservation of archaeological and/or historic materials. Experience of air abrasion, X Radiography and freeze drying would be useful. Preventive conservation skills, or another conservation specialism, would be advantageous. ICON membership is desirable. A full driving licence is essential and experience of driving large vehicles would be beneficial.
