We are pleased to announce the creation of a new Institute of Conservation
(Icon) Network dedicated to the preservation of modern materials.

The Modern Materials Network intends to create a platform for sharing
knowledge and expertise on the sustainable care of the modern materials
that are increasingly prevalent in contemporary society, and which are
therefore increasingly found in our collections and conservation labs.

In light of the upcoming Icon19 triennial conference in Belfast, we are
putting out a call for papers in the hope that a dedicated session can be
held on the conservation of modern materials. Topics can be as wide-ranging
as scientific material analyses; theoretical approaches to the ethics of
preserving objects with limited lifespans; or lessons learned from relevant
projects or treatments.

To submit your abstract, visit the #Icon19 webpages of the Icon website (
https://icon.org.uk/icon-conference-2019). Deadline for submissions is *31st
October*.

Any questions can be directed toward Modern Materials Network co-chairs
Jannicke Langfeldt ACR ([email protected]) and Vanessa
Applebaum ([email protected]).
