2 Internships at Hamilton Kerr Institute, University of Cambridge

The Hamilton Kerr Institute for the conservation of easel paintings is a department of the Fitzwilliam Museum and a postgraduate teaching institution with an international reputation for its high-quality programmes of instruction for students and interns. It also operates an active and wide-ranging research programme. The Institute undertakes the conservation of easel paintings for the Fitzwilliam Museum, and also for external public and private collections. Its clients include the University of Cambridge, the National Trust and the Royal Collection.

Applications are invited for 2 internships in the advanced practical and theoretical conservation of easel paintings. Tenure will be for 11 months in the first instance, though interns may be invited to extend for a second year. Applicants should be recent graduates from a recognised post-graduate training programme in the conservation of easel paintings or expect to graduate before the internship starts on 10 September 2019. The internships are designed to allow maximum experience in studio work, under the supervision of experienced painting conservators, with a wide a variety of paintings. Opportunities for research may also arise depending on projects at the Hamilton Kerr Institute during the period of tenure. Interns will receive a maintenance grant of £1,417 per month for eleven months plus £150 to cover conference travel and fees and £300 towards to the cost of a study trip.
