Hello everyone. I am an AIC Fellow and Archaeological Conservatory in private practice in Maine. I would like to ask this membership for recommendations for an anti-graffiti coating suitable for a 1916 era concrete sign (date and family surname, roughly 14.5 feet long, 1.5 feet high and 6.5 inches thick ) that was salvaged from a 2nd story building and will be re-installed at ground level. The building was not deemed a historic structure and was removed by the Dept. of Transportation with town approval to create off-street parking. The sign will be reinstalled in a brick surround in a corner of the lot to commemorate the name of the family that had owned the land and building. My role is to improve the aesthetics and advise on the repair of this sign. The sign’s new installment at ground level will potentially attract the opportunity for graffiti defacement and I am seeking advice on a suitable anti-graffiti coating.
Watson Coatings, INC. has a sacrificial coating Aqua-Shield WAC2040006, a single-component water-based system and a permanent coating system Armorex TP402HS/C1000HS,that is a solvent-based two-component polyurethane finish. Sherwin Williams has Anti-Graffiti Coating, a clear, non-yellowing, one component, non-sacrificial siloxane coating that cures with atmospheric moisture and can be cleaned with power washing. VandlGuard /anti- Graffiti Coating has a non-sacrificial, non-yellowing coating that also requires Micro-seal (silane/Siloxane water repellent) as a pre-treatment.
