Hello List,
I'm looking into deionization systems for my work area. I've
done a search on ConsDistList Archives but there isn't a ton of information and
the most recent post is from nine years ago. Currently I use jugs of distilled
water for humidification of collections items. The deionization system would be
to replace the need for buying distilled water. A massive supply isn't needed
as I typically humidify and flatten only a few items a month. I also use jugs
of filtered, but not distilled, water for our room humidifiers which can range
from 20L per week across the building in the winter to less than 1L per week in
the summer in order to keep consistent RH levels. It would be great if I could
replace the need to cart the large 18.9L jugs back and forth but it's a
secondary concern.
The municipal water is exceptionally hard here, averages about
393ppm or 23 grains/gallon if I remember correctly from the last time I
checked. I have been looking at a unit from Cole-Parmer
(https://www.coleparmer.ca/p/deionizer-with-large-capacity-housing/7215) which
I'm assuming is half way decent but I'd appreciate any advice on the unit or
selection of a system in general. I've also seen various addons and filters but
not sure if they are necessary. When I enquired about budget I wasn't given
hard numbers but when I mentioned about $1,000 if I was to go with the above
unit that seemed to be fine. Due to another related project that is going to
come in a fair bit under budget I may be able to push that dollar amount higher
if I can justify it and there is a need.
Thank you.
