Textile Treatment Conservator - Historic Royal Palaces
Full time - maternity cover (six months with possible extension) based at 
Hampton Court Palace

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) is the independent charity that looks after the 
Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House Whitehall, 
Kensington Palace, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle. Within these palaces we 
display, store and care for thousands of historic objects, many of them on open 
display in their original royal setting.

The key responsibilities of this role will be to carry out hands-on 
conservation treatments to our textile collection. You will a team member in 
one of our textile treatment teams of Tapestry, Furnishings or Costume and 
General Textiles.

We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual with comprehensive 
knowledge of current technical practice relevant to textile conservation.  You 
will have the ability to accurately assess condition, estimate treatment 
requirements and times, prepare treatment proposals and deliver treatments 
independently to the standard and deadline. The ability to keep clear accurate 
records of all treatments undertaken is also essential. This role also includes 
conducting treatment need surveys on site, in store and within the palaces 
working at heights. Both independently and as a team player you will be 
motivated to work for common goals, often to tight deadlines, by working 
closely with your colleagues.

Successful candidates will have a recognised textile conservation qualification 
and wish to build on their knowledge and experience of textile conservation by 
gaining further practical experience conserving fragile textiles on open 
display in a delicate heritage environment. As a strong team player with 
excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have experience of 
successfully and communicating conservation both in writing and in public.

Based at Hampton Court Palace you may be required to travel to our other 
palaces on occasion.  The ability to work at heights is essential.

Salary:                   £ 27,026 per annum (pro rata)
