The British Museum has a job opening for a Senior Conservator with expertise in Textiles conservation. In this role you will lead in the care of the collection through a combination of interventive and preventive measures in support of the museum's operating plan, and will proactively engage with public outreach activities of the Department of Conservation. Key areas of responsibility: · To advise on condition and prepare objects for loans, exhibitions, and permanent display. · To motivate and develop other staff and students on placements. · To advise others regarding specialism. · To devise and undertake projects for the care of the collections in store. · To care for the collection through documentation, surveys, data collection, analysis, and support at public events. · To contribute to the conservation of materials / object types outside own area of expertise as necessary. Person specification: The ideal candidate will hold a recognised professional conservation qualification to degree level or have equivalent experience with the conservation of the material relevant to the specialism of the role. You will be working towards your PACR accreditation and would have passed a colour vision test. You will have excellent demonstrable practical skills in conservation, strong understanding of conservation theory and ethical decision making and experience with display related activities. You will have excellent knowledge of contemporary principles and practice in preventive conservation.
