The February 2019 issue of the Journal of the Institute of Conservation (Vol 42, no 1) is now available online
http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/rcon20/current <http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/rcon20/current> In the first issue of Volume 42 we are pleased to announce - in what is a first for any conservation publication - an article where the 3D models under discussion are linked to a 3D online platform so that the reader can inspect them in detail and at will. This is an innovative feature made in partnership with the 3D content platform Sketchfab.com, and one which we hope many more authors will use to powerfully augment the understanding of their work. The issue also includes three other in-depth articles that discuss the optimisation of surfactant detergency for the cleaning of textiles; present an interdisciplinary approach to ethnographic conservation; and propose a methodology for assessing architectural stonework that quantifies risk according to condition. Contents: Editorial Moe Sato and Anita Quye - 'Detergency evaluation of non-ionic surfactant Dehypon® LS54 for textile conservation wet cleaning' Garrard Cole, Emilia Kingham and Tony Waldron - 'Printing pathology: a case study in presenting pathological human skeletal remains for education and display' (free-to-view) Alison Clark, Rachel Howie, Lizzy Leckie, Kaetaeta Watson and Chris Charteris - 'Many hands, many voices: an interdisciplinary approach to exhibiting Kiribati coconut fibre armour' Fabio Ietto and Annalisa Laganà - 'Historic stone portals in the ancient centre of Tropea, Italy: inventory and state of conservation' Book Reviews: Adam Webster reviews 'The Picture So Far: 50 Years of Painting Conservation' Naomi Luxford reviews 'Curated Decay: Heritage Beyond Saving' Helena Rodwell reviews 'Preserve, Protect, And Defend: A Practical Guide to the Care of Collections' Icon members and subscribers can access and download these articles for free by logging in at: http://iconjournal.weebly.com/ Please enter the password that was sent to you with your membership renewal package or contact membership_at_icon.org.uk.
